P.T. Barnum's "The Art of Getting Money" - A Must Read

By Tanya V Millionaire In Training www.mmmchallenge.com

P. T. Barnum was a great showmen and I always associated his name with Barnum and Bailey Circus. I recently learned that P.T. Barnum was a great business man who amassed a great fortune before he died. He was a politician, reformer, lecturer and a writer. In his book, “The Art of Getting Money”, he discusses the rules to getting and keeping money. He advises that “Money is a very excellent servant but a terrible master.”

P. T. Barnum shares lessons from his time and experiences that seem to be common sense and is similar to what a lot of gurus talk about today. For instance, understanding economy. True economy is having more coming in than you have going out, so that you can save the margin and put it to work for you.

He also discusses choosing the right vocation and the right location. This is so true. Last year it was estimated that 80% of Americans are unhappy with their jobs. It is hard to create wealth when you aren't doing something that you are truly passionate about. Once you have the right vocation, you have to put yourself in the right location or you will still be facing a dead end.

Avoid debt and persevere. This things can seem hard to do but, Barnum advises that if you don't worry about keeping up with the “Jones” and you stretch what you have you can master your economy and avoid debt. You must also be ready to stay the course and persevere during set backs. Barnum speaks from experience, as he himself lost a fortune early on but he built it all back and more. I personally like the part about perseverance because following your dreams can be very difficult at times, but the reward is certainly worth what it took to get there, if you don't give up!

Barnum's book is a must read for any one who seriously wants to learn the basic principles to creating wealth and being successful. Take some time to read and learn these wealth building principles for yourself, it will be a worth wile investment!

Book Review "The Art of Getting Money " by P.T. Barnum

By Angelica Lobo,Residential and Commercial Investor
If you just read the title of this book you could assume that it would talk only about what you should do and how to acquire money.
But instead, is a valuable book where P.T Barnum expresses very clearly the road to start and run a successful business as well as
good habits we must cultivate in order to maintain our business and integrity as a person.

"Ambition, Energy, Industry, Perseverance, are Indispensable requisites for success in business."

There are great lessons taught on this book.
You have to be cautions when setting up your business. Beggining with the vocation you choose.
If you are doing because someone told you so, because it is your father's business, etc. If you don't love what you do, you will not have the success and results you want.
"Unless a man enters upon the vocation intended for him by nature...he cannot succed"

Your Location, The Product you Offer, Marketing, Customer Service, Managing your Money,  Avoid Debt, Being Cautios when Investing your Money in Something else, Use of Great Tolls for your Business,
Have a System in Place.
All these will reflect on the rate of succes you will have as an antrepreneur and bussiness owner.

Other important points P.T. Barnum talks about

"Money is good for nothing unless you know the value of it by experience"
"Easy come, Easy Go"

Many people when get it for FREE(meaning they didn't work for it) they will become slaves of their vanities and extravagances. They don't think long term and in ways how their money could "work" for them. Instead the just keep on spending it. In the other hand, when you work hard for your money you learn its value and how to use it wisely.

"Engage in one kind of business only, and stick to it faithfully until you succeed"

When you focus all your power on one project only , you will constantly be learning about it and thinking of ways to improve it. If you focus in many different accupations and tasks, you will never be great at it, of finish it up properly. It will always be half done, half good.

"Make money honestly, and not otherwise."

In other words, preserve your integrity. Otherwise it will destroy your bnusiness and your reputation.

These are only  a few of the great lessons P.T. Barnum talks about.

This book makes me want to keep working harder and smarter to build and grow my bussiness so that the rewards of it and its success will last long after I am gone.

The Art of Money Getting - A Book Review

By Philip J. Sherman, Millionaire in Training, MMMChallenge.com
P.T. Barnum hit the proverbially nail on the head when he wrote, "The Art of Money Getting.

This book is a no nonsense look at how one correctly acquires money.  With sections such as, don't mistake your vocation and avoid debt I have to agree with everything he said and at the time, 1880, the country listened much better to this advice.  We didn't have the Federal Reserve with the credit system to help us get in debt yet.

There are a number of great quotes like, "wine is a mocker", Prosperity is a more severe ordeal than adversity, especially sudden prosperity.", and "Easy come, easy go,".

Have you ever noticed how when someone when the lottery they often times end up worse off then they ever were before.  That's because they didn't sow what they reaped and hadn't earned what they received nor had they developed the understanding to properly manage their new windfall.

P.T. Barnum covers this and every other part of the spectrum of how to properly gain money including not being foolish enough to  give someone a note for a said amount without knowing that business as well making sure you are taking security for the debt no matter how sure of a thing it is.
