Something to Think About

When I was in High School taking a fire fighting vocational class one of my favorite teachers, Retired Captain Charles Newcomb, read us a poem that he lived by. A lot of people mistakenly think the title is "The Man in the Mirror", but it is actually called "The Guy in the Glass". It is something we can all think about. I'm sorry ladies, but the value is for us all, not just the guys like the title says.

                                               The Guy in the Glass

                                                                 by

                                              Peter Dale Wimbrow, Jr

When you get all you want and you struggle for pelf,

and the world makes you king for a day,

then go to the mirror and look at yourself

and see what that man has to say.

For it isn't your mother, your father or wife

whose judgment upon you must pass,

but the man, whose verdict counts most in your life

is the one staring back from the glass.

He's the fellow to please,

never mind all the rest.

For he's with you right to the end,

and you've passed your most difficult test

if the man in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,

And think you're a wonderful guy,

But the man in the glass says you're only a bum

If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You can fool the whole world,

down the highway of years,

and take pats on the back as you pass.

But your final reward will be heartache and tears

if you've cheated the man in the glass.

Not trying to be negative, but the following part I do agree with some. However, I think the higher power God is the most important person to please.

For it isn't your mother, your father or wife

whose judgment upon you must pass,

but the man, whose verdict counts most in your life

is the one staring back from the glass.

    He's the fellow to please,

    never mind all the rest.

Monte, we understand the post; but your comment says it all. It is He we must please. All He asks for is our love (mercy). By doing His will; He blesses us the most. I have never seen an hearse; followed by an U-Haul truck full of money. To much is given; much is expected. He wants us to prosper. That's why he gives us minds to use and does not like lazy people. Galations tells us, the man under the sun; how to live. We are people of light. Thanks for your insight.
